Kevin’s Journey

Kevin’s Path to Recovery and Independence with Absolute Care Services

Background:

Kevin, a once active individual, faced a significant setback after experiencing a seizure at home, leading to a three-month hospital stay. Before this incident, Kevin had been successfully managing alcohol dependency and enjoyed daily outings. However, the hospital stay left him unable to walk and requiring the assistance of two support workers and specialised equipment to move around his home. Kevin’s confidence plummeted, and he felt isolated and lonely.

The Support Provided by ACS:

Absolute Care Services (ACS) stepped in to support Kevin during this challenging time. Familiar staff members who had previously worked with Kevin were instrumental in his recovery, providing continuity of care and emotional support. The team collaborated with healthcare professionals to develop a comprehensive plan focusing on improving Kevin’s mood, mobility, social interactions, and nutrition.

  1. Developing a Customised Care Plan:

The ACS team worked closely with Kevin to create a care plan that included both short-term and long-term goals, which Kevin found achievable and motivating. The plan was designed to address his immediate needs while also setting the stage for a gradual return to independence.

  1. Improving Mobility and Physical Health:

Initially, Kevin required significant assistance with mobility. The care team provided physical support and encouragement, helping him regain strength and confidence. Over time, Kevin’s determination shone through, and he was able to start walking independently again. This marked a significant milestone in his recovery as he was now able to access his local community.

  1. Addressing Mental Health and Social Isolation:

The care team provided consistent emotional support to Kevin, helping him overcome feelings of loneliness and low mood. They facilitated his re-engagement with Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings, which played a crucial role in managing his alcohol dependency and provided a supportive community.

  1. Promoting Independence in Daily Activities:

As Kevin’s confidence grew, he began taking more control over his daily life. The care team supported him in organising his own medical appointments, shopping, and meal preparation. Kevin also resumed activities he enjoyed, such as going to the barbers and maintaining his home, without assistance.

Outcomes:

Kevin’s journey with ACS demonstrates the power of tailored care and support in fostering independence and well-being. Today, Kevin is more self-sufficient than ever, managing his daily activities and alcohol dependency with renewed confidence. He now requires only morning and evening visits from the ACS team, primarily for well-being checks. Kevin’s mood has significantly improved, and he often shares positive experiences and achievements from his day and week.

Reflecting on his journey, Kevin expressed pride in his progress and gratitude for the support he received, stating, “I feel so much better now and proud of what I’ve accomplished. The support from the team has been incredible.”
