Clodagh’s Enhanced Quality of Life with Absolute Care Services
Background: Clodagh, who has dementia and is partially sighted, was previously cared for by another live-in carer. However, the carer struggled to meet Clodagh’s increasing needs, leading to exhaustion and difficulties in providing the necessary support. As a result, Clodagh’s overall well-being was declining. Recognising the need for specialised care, Absolute Care Services was brought in to provide the appropriate support and improve Clodagh’s quality of life.
The Support Provided by ACS: Upon taking over Clodagh’s care, ACS conducted a comprehensive assessment and developed a dementia care plan tailored to her specific needs. The care plan focused on enhancing Clodagh’s cognitive engagement, mobility, safety, and nutritional well-being.
- Creating a Dementia Care Plan: ACS implemented a dementia care plan that targeted areas where Clodagh needed the most support. The plan included a schedule of key activities and tasks designed to keep her mentally engaged and physically active. These activities were crucial in improving her cognition, mobility, and general awareness.
- Enhancing Mobility and Safety: Understanding that Clodagh was partially sighted, the ACS team made small but significant adaptations to her home. These modifications reduced the risk of trips and falls, allowing her to move around her home more freely and confidently. Additionally, ACS supported Clodagh in accessing her garden, an activity she had been unable to enjoy with her previous carer. This not only improved her physical mobility but also enhanced her mental well-being.
- Supporting Nutritional Needs: ACS ensured that Clodagh’s dietary preferences were respected and that her meals were prepared in a way that met her nutritional needs. This attention to her diet helped maintain her overall health and well-being, contributing to better energy levels and improved sleep patterns.
- Involving Family in Care: Clodagh’s son has always been an active participant in his mother’s care. ACS maintained regular communication with him, providing updates and involving him in key decisions about her care. Knowing that his mother was receiving the best possible care allowed him to worry less and focus on spending quality time with her.
Outcomes: Since ACS took over Clodagh’s care, there have been significant improvements in her overall well-being. Her mobility has increased, she is more engaged during the day, and her sleep has improved. Clodagh now enjoys her garden, a simple pleasure that had previously been out of reach. Her nutritional needs are met with meals tailored to her preferences, and the risk of falls has been minimised through home adaptations.
Clodagh’s son expressed his relief and gratitude, noting that he can now rest easy knowing his mother is well-supported and thriving under the care of ACS.
